What you should always remember about the electric equipment in a car is that the available tension is limited. It oscillates between 12 and 14.5 V. It is supplied by the batteries and the alternator. Supplying the electric devices with such a low tension implies that the electric current is very high, reaching sometimes several dozens of ampers (power amplifier). To amke you understand through an easy comparison, it would be as if you had a tap of water with a very low pressure: the flow- the diameter of the tap- will be thus be very high to compensate this phenomenon.

An Essential Safety

Supplying your electric devices with a very high power requires essential measures of safety. Indeed, not only those currents can generate important electric arcs (or sparkles) but a car remains an esily ignitable (fuel fumes, plastic elements). That is why you need perfectly securized supply cables, here are some tips we advice you to follow:

• Having some supply cables for high electricty-consuming devices (amplifiers), directly taken from the battery.
• Installing proctection for each fuse at the beginning of the lines ( near of the battery) and for each possible connection with supplied devices.
• Using cables of a sufficient cross-section, sometimes even slightly bigger, to support the maximum current that will pass through
• Installing fundamental units on lines tahta would all be connected in a single point on the chassis. You will take care to use a cable which length will not exceed 4.2 feet from the connected device, and also a cross-section similar to the one which was used for the supplied cables.

The connection between the battery and the chassis will also have to be equipped with a linkage cross-section similar to the supply cross-section.

Copper or Aluminium?

Since the last few months, the price of raw metals has kept on increasing abruptly. This is the case with copper. However, contrary to many manufacturers who decided to turn their production to aluminium, Oxygen Audio remains faithfull to copper. The immunity against interferences in the audio and video linkages that are present in the car( the complex and all-present electric network) is another very important point.
